The story

I have to say, for me Gareth Bale is simply the best player Wales has ever seen, and possibly the finest footballer Britain has produced as well. His pace is electric and his ability to score brilliant goals is second to none. One moment that sticks with me is his overhead kick for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final. It was an incredible display of skill and athleticism – pure class all the way. That match was held on May 26, 2018, at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv, Ukraine. Real Madrid faced Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final, with Real Madrid ultimately winning 3-1. Gareth Bale came off the bench in the 61st minute and just a few minutes later, in the 64th minute, he scored one of the most memorable goals in Champions League history. After receiving a cross from Marcelo near the edge of the penalty area, Bale executed a perfect overhead kick, sending the ball into the top corner beyond Liverpool's goalkeeper, Loris Karius. This goal was pivotal in securing Real Madrid's 13th European Cup title and is widely praised for its quality and audacity. Following the goal, Bale celebrated by running to the corner flag and raising his arms as his teammates joined in the moment. The scene was electric, not just for Real Madrid fans but for football lovers worldwide, recognising the sheer brilliance of that strike. This goal often ranks among the best ever scored in a Champions League final, showcasing Bale's exceptional technique and improvisation under pressure. Numerous football analysts have highlighted this goal as a rare and sublime moment in the sport.
