Ings began his youth career at AFC Bournemouth, progressing through their system before making his senior debut in 2009. During the 2010–11 season, he was loaned to Dorchester Town, where he scored four goals in nine appearances. In August 2011, Ings transferred to Burnley for an undisclosed fee. He made an immediate impact, scoring 26 goals in 38 appearances during the 2013–14 season, earning the Football League Championship Player of the Year award. In August 2018, Ings moved to Southampton on loan, a move that became permanent in July 2019. He enjoyed a prolific period at Southampton, scoring 34 goals in 67 appearances, including a memorable 18-goal season in 2019–20. On 25 February 2023, he scored his first goals for West Ham in a 4–0 victory against Nottingham Forest. In August 2025, Ings joined Sheffield United on a one-year deal with the option to extend. He made 23 appearances and scored two goals during his tenure. In September 2026, Ings signed with Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield United.
