Welcome to SIS cards

The story

Why I Started Collecting Cards Why did I start collecting cards? In truth, I don’t think that feeling ever really left me. It all stems from my love of trading card games. Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and plenty of other card games were part of my life when I was younger. There was something about opening a pack, discovering what was inside and finding a card you’d been hoping for. Collecting was part of the fun, but so was everything around it: playing, swapping and sharing that excitement with other people. Before that, there were the sticker albums. As a kid, it was the yearly football sticker book or a World Cup shiny pulled from a 20p pack. Those little moments felt massive. You’d take your swaps into school, see what everyone else had and try to find the stickers missing from your album. The playground became a trading floor, although the negotiations were probably more serious than anything I’ve done since! Cards and stickers have always been a staple in my life. The collections have changed over the years, but the appeal is much the same. There’s the anticipation, the hunt and the satisfaction of adding something you really wanted. Bringing Football Into the Collection Now I’ve found Southampton FC cards, and the cycle has started all over again. That’s where two interests come together for me: collecting cards and supporting Saints. A card becomes more interesting when it features a player you’ve watched, a team you care about or someone who brings back a particular football memory. It doesn’t have to be the rarest card in the set. Sometimes the player on the front is enough to make it something you want to keep. There are some stunning cards to collect now, too. The designs, colours, parallels and autographs give you so many ways to build a collection that feels like your own. You can chase a favourite player, focus on a particular set or pick up the cards that catch your eye. For me, Southampton gives that collecting a direction. There will always be another impressive card out there, but having that connection to Saints makes choosing what belongs in my collection a little more personal. More Than Opening Packs One of the things I like about collecting is that the story doesn’t end when you get the card. You remember where it came from. Perhaps you found it after weeks of searching, bought it from another collector or spotted it when you weren’t looking for anything at all. Over time, those little details become part of the collection as well. That’s something I want Saints in Sleeves to capture. Not just photographs of cards, but why I chose them, the players behind them and the football memories they bring back. I also like that collecting gives you something to share with other people. Years ago, that meant swapping stickers in the playground. Now it can mean chatting with another Saints collector about a card, a player or what we’re both hoping to find next. The setting has changed, but that familiar enthusiasm is still there. The Cycle Continues So why did I start collecting cards? Partly because I’ve always enjoyed it. Partly because there are some brilliant things out there to collect. But finding Southampton cards has given an old hobby a fresh reason to pull me back in. I’m not trying to collect everything. I want to build a collection I enjoy, full of players and cards that mean something to me. From sticker albums and playground swaps to Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and now Saints cards, there’s a fairly clear thread running through it all. The cards have changed. The excitement hasn’t. And so the cycle continues.
